Beu

Beu, Begu ose Bega, është fjalë turqisht për "kryetar", e zbatuar tradicionalisht për udhëheqësit e grupeve të vogla fisnore.

Në dokumente historike, shumë turq, dhe persianë janë titulluar Beu, Bek, gjirin, Mian ose Beigh. Ata janë të gjithë e njëjta fjalë me kuptimin e thjeshtë të "zotëruesit". Rajonet apo provincat ku bejlerët u vendosën ose kishin për administrim një bejllëk, që përafërsisht do të thotë "emirat" (apo "principatë" në ekuivalentin evropian), dhe "krahinës" (apo "governorate" në ekuivalentin evropian). Sot, fjala përdoret në vende myslymane si një titull social për burrat (pak a shumë si fjala angleze "mister").

Shembulli më i njohur i një beu është Gjergj Kastrioti, që fitoi titullin "bej" si pjesë e emrit Skënderbeu.[1]
