Data Link Layer

Data Link Layer ose Shtresa e Data Link është shtresa e dytë mbas shtresës fizike, në komunikimin e makinave në rrjetat kompjuterike.

Data Link ka një sasi të funksioneve specifike për të cilat kujdeset. Këto funksione përfshijnë:

  1. Kujdesin për interfejsin e shërbimeve të definuara mirë (en:well-defined) për shtresën e rrjetit,
  2. Rregullimin e ndërprerjeve (en:errors) gjatë transmetimit
  3. Rregullimin e të dhënave për pranuesit e ngadalshëm, që të mos tejmbushet me të dhëna nga dërguesi i shpejtë[1].

Për të përmbushur qëllimin shtresa Data link merr paketat nga shtresa e rrjetit dhe i ndan ato në "frame" pët transmetim (transportim). Secili frame përmban "frame header" koka, "payload field" pjesa kryesore e të dhënave, dhe "frame trailer"[1].
