Vendodhja e Hjustonit në Texas

Houston (shqiptohet hjuston) është qyteti më i madh në shtetin american të Teksasit, dhe qyteti i katërt më i madh në Shtetet e Bashkuara. Sipas regjistrimit të vitit 2010 SHBA, qyteti kishte një popullsi prej 2,1 milionë banorë brenda një sipërfaqe prej 1,700 km². Houston është qendra e qarkut Harris.

Houston u themelua në vitin 1836 mbi tokën pranë brigjeve të lumit Buffalo. Ai u inkorporua si qytet më 5 qershor 1837, dhe u quajt Houston për nder të Presidentit atëhershëm të Republikës së Teksasit ish-gjeneralit Sam Houston-i cili drejtoi Betejën e San Jacinto, që u zhvillua 40 km në lindje të vendit ku u themelua qyteti. Porti në rritje dhe industria hekurudhore, e kombinuar me zbulimin e naftës në 1901, e ka ndikuar në rritjen e vazhdueshme të popullsisë së qytetit. Në mesin e shekullit të njëzetë, Houston u bë vendodhja e Qendrës Mjekësore të Teksasit, përqendrimi më i madh botëror i kujdesit shëndetësor dhe institucioneve kërkimore dhe Qendra Hapësirore "Johnson" e NASA-s, ku ndodhet Qendra e Kontrollit të Misioneve.
