Open source profesional

Open source profesional është një model biznesi për software open-source, ku një shitës software-i open-source gjeneron të ardhurat e shërbimeve profesionale të paguara, mirëmban dhe mbështet së bashku me software-in.[1] Disa shitës software open-source, gjithashtu sigurojnë licensa komerciale të software-ve open-source, ose versione të përshtatura të software-ve open-source për klientë specifikë. Open source profesional është më tepër i përdorshëm në një ambient biznesi sesa për përdorim vetjak. Histori

Kur software-i open-source filloi të bëhej popullor në vitet 1990 me futjen e Linux-it, bizneset hezitonin ta merrnin atë, për shkak të frikës se asnjë njësi e vetme nuk garantoi stabilitetin apo mbështetjen e saj.
