Themeluar në vitin 1993, Red Hat ka selinë në Raleigh, North Carolina, si dhe zyra të tjera më të vogla në mbarë botën.

Red Hat dhe softuer i lirë

Red Hat krijon, mban, dhe kontribuon në shumë projekte të softuerit të lirë dhe të hapur. Që nga marsi 2016, Red Hat është kontribuesi më i madh korporatave të kernel Linux pas kompanisë Intel. Kompania gjithashtu është e njohur për mbështetjen e komuniteteve që promovojnë teknollogjitë me burim të hapur (open source).
