Базилосаурус (Basilosaurus „Краљ гуштера“) је праисторијски кит који је живео на Земљи у еоцену.
Његови фосилизовани остаци су први пут откривени у Луизијани, Сједињене Америчке Државе. У почетку се веровало да је нова врста морског чудовишта. Такође се у почетку мислило да је гуштер, због чега је добио име „саурус“, али је касније утврђено да је морски сисар.[2]
Фосили су такође пронађени у Египту (популарна Долина китова)[3] и Пакистану. Базилосаурус је био дугачак око 18 метара и верује се да је био највећа животиња свог времена. Његови додатни удови и данас занимају палеонтологе.
