Turumba

Ang Pagdiriwang ng Turumba (Ingles: Turumba Festival[1]) ay isang kapistahan sa Pakil, Laguna, Pilipinas na idinaraos nang pitong ulit tuwing Abril at Mayo taun-taon. Ang unang yugto ay isinasagawa sa Biyernes bago maganap ang Linggo ng Palaspas, habang ang panghuling yugto ay ginaganap sa araw ng Linggo ng Pentekostes. Inaalala ng pistang ito ang pitong mga pighati ng Birheng Maria.[2]

Etimolohiya

Ang salitang "turumba", batay sa teoriya ni Alejandro R. Roces, ay maaaring nagmula sa dalawang mga salitang Tagalog: ang "turo" na may kahulugang "pagtutok" (katulad ng pagturo o pagtutok ng daliri sa isang bagay o lugar), at sa "umbay" na tumutukoy sa panambitan (umbayi, punebre, o tugtog-patay) na inaawit ng mga may sakit o mga lumpo. Subalit mayroong itong kaugnayan sa tinatawag na sinaunang mga "nakakaing birhen" (edible virgins), na mga cookie o otap na iniluluto upang alalahanin ang kapistahan ng mga santo. Ang mga tinapay na ito ay ginagamit upang maipahiwatig ang imahe ng mga santo. Sa Pakil, Laguna, ang mga otap na ito ay kumakatawan sa Birhen ng Turumba na nakikilala rin bilang Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Turumba (Kastila para sa "Ang Ating Ina ng mga Pighati ng Turumba"), isang pamagat para sa Birheng Maria.[2]
