Microcleidus là một chi bò sát dạng Thằn lằn chân bơi (kỳ long, Sauropterygia) đã tuyệt chủng thuộc phân bộ Thằn lằn cổ rắn (Plesiosauroidea). Microcleidus có kích thước trung bình bằng cá heo, đạt chiều dài 3 m (9,8 ft). Các loài có 40 đốt sống cổ và đuôi ngắn có 28 đốt sống.
Từ nguyên
Tên gọi khoa học của chi này bắt nguồn từ tiếng Hy Lạp mikros - 'nhỏ' và kleid- (kleis), 'khóa, chốt, xương đòn' + us: nghĩa là xương đòn nhỏ.[1]
Phân loại
Các loài bao gồm: Microcleidus homalospondylus (Owen 1865) và Microcleidus macropterus (Seeley 1865).
Occitanosaurus tournemirensis (ban đầu là "Plesiosaurus" tournemirensis), được Sciau và ctv đặt tên năm 1990, dựa trên một bộ xương gần như hoàn chỉnh của một con vật dài khoảng 4 mét (13 ft).[2] Sau đó nó được phát hiện là một loài thuộc chi Microcleidus.
Cây phát sinh chủng loài dưới đây dựa theo phân tích của Ketchum và Benson, 2011.[3]
