La C ye la tercera lletra del abecedariu y del alfabetu asturianu y la segunda de les sos consonantes. El so nome ye femenín: la ce y el so plural ye les ces.

Ye una consonante fricativa interdental sorda.

Provién de la lletra gimel del alfabetu feniciu, que los griegos convirtieron na gama cuando adautaron l'alfabetu feniciu y crearon l'alfabetu griegu. Nestos alfabetos, el caráuter representaba al soníu de la oclusiva velar sonora /g/, pero los etruscos, al adautar l'alfabetu griegu nel alfabetu etruscu, asignáron-y el valor de la oclusiva velar sorda, pesie a que n'etruscu nun s'estremaba la sorda de la sonora; como los llatinos crearon el so alfabetu con base nel alfabetu etruscu, el soníu asignáu a la lletra C foi'l de /k/, y non el de /g/ orixinal.
