Mainstream ye un neoloxismu d'orixe inglés (lliteralmente corriente principal) que s'emplega nel arte en xeneral y na música moderna en particular, pa designar los trabayos que cuenten con grandes medios pa la so producción y comercialización, y que lleguen con facilidá al gran públicu. Artísticamente pue utilizase con un matiz despeutivu, pa carauterizar obres de calter comercial y pocu innovador. Tamién pue utilizase con un tonu neutro, pa designar les obres pertenecientes a artistes consagraos o corrientes artístiques consolidaes.
Como antónimu de mainstream suel utilizase'l neoloxismu underground.
