Los polífagos (Polyphaga) son el suborde de coleópteros más ampliu y diversu. Compónse de 16 superfamilies y 144 families. Espleguen una enorme variedá d'especializaciones y adautaciones, con más de 300.000 especies descrites, esto ye, el 90% de les especies d'escarabayos afayaes hasta güei.

Carauterístiques

La pleura protorácica nun ye visible externamente, sinón que ta fundida col trocantín y permanez interna como "criptopleura".
