SS Centauri (SS Cen / HD 114720 / CPD-63 2632)[5] ye una estrella binaria de magnitú aparente +9,4. Encuadrada na constelación de Centauru, visualmente alcuéntrase al norte de θ Muscae y al oeste de m Centauri. La distancia a la que s'atopa nun ye bien conocida —la so paralax nun foi midida pol satélite Hipparcos—, envalorándose en 500 pársecs (1630 años lluz).

SS Centauri ye una binaria cercana «semidesprendida» según una binaria eclipsante, asemeyada a Algol (β Persei) o a λ Tauri. El so periodu orbital ye de 2,4787 díes y el planu orbital ta inclináu 85º respectu al planu del cielu.[6]

La componente principal de SS Centauri ye una estrella blancu-azulada de la secuencia principal de tipu espectral B8V. 44 vegaes más lluminosa que'l Sol, contribúi col 83% a la lluminosidá total del sistema. Tien una masa de 4 mases solares y un radiu 2,3 vegaes más grande que'l del Sol. La naturaleza de la componente secundaria nun ye bien conocida, y asignar dende tipu F2 hasta G8IV. La so lluminosidá ye 4,8 vegaes superior a la lluminosidá solar. Con aproximao la mesma masa que'l Sol, el so radiu ye 3,58 vegaes más grande que'l radiu solar.[6] Mientres l'eclís principal —cuanda la estrella más fría intercepta la lluz de la estrella blanca-azulada— el rellumu del sistema mengua 1,60 magnitúes ente que nel secundariu'l descensu del rellumu ye de namái 0,10 magnitúes.[7]
