Scheat (β Pegasi / β Peg / 53 Pegasi)[10] ye la segunda estrella más brillosa de la constelación de Pegasu —dempués d'Enif (ε Pegasi)— y una de les que forma'l asterismu del Cuadrante de Pegasu. El so nome provién de la pallabra árabe as-saq, que significa «la pierna» o «la espinía». Alcuéntrase a 200 años lluz del Sistema Solar.

Scheat ye una xigante colorada —catalogada tamién como xigante lluminosa— de tipu espectral M2.5. El so diámetru ye 95 vegaes más grande que'l diámetru solar; asitiada nel centru del Sistema Solar, englobaría a Mercuriu nel so interior, estendiéndose hasta'l 70% del tamañu de la órbita de Venus. Ye una estrella bien fría, con una temperatura superficial de 3700 K, un 65% de la que tien el Sol. La so lluminosidá ye 340 vegaes mayor que la lluminosidá solar considerando namái la lluz visible; pero teniendo en cuenta que Scheat emite una gran cantidá de radiación nel infrarroxu, la so lluminosidá bolométrica, esto ye, en toles llonxitúes d'onda, algama los 1500 soles.[11]

Ye una estrella variable clasificada como variable irregular, que'l so rellumu bazcuya ente magnitú aparente +2,31 a +2,74.[12] Un fuerte vientu estelar que sopla dende la so superficie crea un fina envoltura de gas alredor de la estrella, na cual detectóse vapor d'agua.[11]
