Iddew o ynys Cyprus a ddaeth yn un o ddilynwyr Iesu o Nasareth oedd Barnabas (m. OC 61). Ei enw genedigol oedd Joseph; cafodd yr enw olaf 'Barnabas' pan droes yn Gristion tua adeg y Pentecost. Er na fu'n un o'r Deuddeg Apostol gwreiddiol, dechreuwyd ei gyfrif yn un o'r apostolion am iddo droi Sant Paul yn Gristion. Mae'r Eglwys Gatholig a'r eglwysi uniongred yn ei gydnabod yn sant. Mae'n bosibl ei fod yn gefnder i Sant Marc.
Gyda'r Apostol Paul dechreuodd bregethu'r efengyl i'r cenhedloedd tua'r flwyddyn 34. Aeth gyda Paul i Antioch, ond codwyd anghydfod rhyngddynt ac aeth gyda Marc i genhadu yng Nghyprus. Credir iddo gael ei labyrddio i farwolaeth yn y flwyddyn 61 yn Salamis (pentwr o gerrig yw un o'i arwyddion fel sant).
