Saif ar afon Orne ac mae'n ffinio gyda Bretteville-sur-Odon, Carpiquet, Cormelles-le-Royal, Épron, Fleury-sur-Orne, Hérouville-Saint-Clair, Ifs, Louvigny, Mondeville, Saint-Contest, Saint-Germain-la-Blanche-Herbe ac mae ganddi boblogaeth o tua 411,106 (2023)[1]. Roedd y boblogaeth yn 2006 yn 113,249.
Cysylltir y ddinas a Gwilym Goncwerwr, a gladdwyd yma. Bu ef yn gyfrifol am lawer o adeiladau nodedig yma, yn cynnwys abaty Abbaye-aux-hommes a chastell Château de Caen, sy'n un o'r mwyaf yng ngorllewin Ewrop. Yn 1944, yn ystod yr Ail Ryfel Byd, ymladdwyd Brwydr Caen yma, a dinistriwyd rhan helaeth o'r ddinas.
