Un o'r ynysoedd sy'n ffurfio Indonesia yw Halmahera. Saif yng ngogledd Maluku, rhwng Sulawesi a Papua, yn union ar linell y cyhydedd.
Halmahera yw'r fwyaf o'r ynysoedd sy'n ffurfio Maluku, gydag arwynebedd o 17.780 km², a phoblogaeth o tua 140.000. Mae'r copa uchaf 1630 medr uwch lefel y môr. Gerllaw, ceir nifer o ynysoedd llai, yn cynnwys Ternate a Tidore.
Y Sbaenwyr a'r Portiwgeaid oedd yr Ewropeaid cyntaf i gyrraedd yr ynys, tua 1525. Yn 1660, daeth yn eiddo'r Iseldiroedd.
