Fel seiclwr amatur, enillodd fedal efydd tîm dilyn yn Ngemau Olympaidd 1956, y fedal arian ar gyfer pursuit yng Ngemau'r Gymanwlad 1958 a medal arian (1956) ac aur (1958), ym mhencampwriaeth Cenedlaethol Pursuit 4000m, Prydain, ef oedd pencampwr ras allt British League of Racing Cyclists yn 1957, gan ennill y fedal arian yn yr un gystadleuaeth y flwyddyn ganlynol.

Bu farw o flinder ar lethrau Mont Ventoux yn ystod adran 13 y Tour de France yn 1967. Darganfu'r post mortem ei fod wedi cymryd amffetaminau ac alcohol, cyfuniad diuretic a brofodd i fod yn un marwol pan gyfunwyd hwy gyda'r tywydd poeth, y dringiad enwog galed Ventoux a'r ffaith y bu'n dioddef yn barod o anhwyldeb yr ystumog.
