At the National Census of 2006, its population (as a part of the former Khusf District of Birjand County) was 4,118 in 1,119 households.[5] There were 3,896 inhabitants in 1,141 households at the following census of 2011.[6] At the most recent census of 2016, the population of the rural district was 3,425 in 1,083 households, by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Khusf County.[3] The most populous of its 57 villages was Qaleh Zari, with 1,288 people.[2]
