Sedalia serves as a trade center for local farmers. A post office was established at Sedalia on January 15, 1889, and remained in operation until 1903 when mail was rerouted from Van Alstyne. It had 100 residents in 1896, as well as two churches, two general stores, a gristmill, and a cotton gin. Sedalia's population has ranged from 20 to 25 since 1940, with a total population of 25 from 1990 through 2000.[3]
