Rheiformes је ред који обухвата породицу Rheidae нандуи.[3] Налази се у надреду Paleognathae, која обухвата све ратите. Постојећи чланови се налазе у Јужној Америци. Док IOC World Bird List и Clements Checklist категоришу Rheiformes као засебан ред,[3][4] BirdLife Data Zone укључује нандуе, заједно са нојевима, тинамуима, казуарима, емуима и кивијима, у ред Struthioniformes.[5] Од две постојеће врсте нандуа које је признала IUCN црвена листа, велики нанду (Rhea americana) је наведена као скоро угрожени таксон,[6] док је мали нанду (Rhea pennata) наведена као најмање угрожени таксон.[7]: 2014. до 2022. године, IUCN је признао Rhea tarapacensis као засебну врсту и навео је као скоро угрожени таксон у својој последњој процени 2020. године;[8] 2022. године је поново призната као подврста врсте мали нанду (Rhea pennata). [7]
