Windows Neptune ishte një prototip për sistemin operativ Microsoft Windows. Neptuni më i mirë për konsumatorin e fjalës së fjalës së tij Windows NT (që u vu në dukje specifik për profesionin) dhe ishte i pasuri i Windows 98. Zhvillimi i Neptunit filloi në vitin 1999 dhe sipas planit, sistemi doli në treg në vitin 2001.[2]

Një version testues u lançua në fund të vitit 1999, por në fillim të vitit 2000 Microsoft njoftoi se ekipet e Neptunit dhe Odyssey - pasardhësi i Windows 2000 - po bashkoheshin. Të dy skuadrat tani vazhduan me emrin e koduar Whistler dhe punuan në pasardhësin e Windows 98 dhe Windows 2000.[3] Whistler përfundimisht çoi në zhvillimin e sistemit operativ Windows XP.[4]

Neptuni kishte opsionin e integruar për të krijuar profile të përdoruesve. Sistemi gjithashtu filloi me një ekran mirëseardhjeje ku mund të identifikoheshit. Këto veçori janë bartur në Windows XP.[4] Karakteristika të tjera, të tilla si qendrat e aktivitetit dhe një faqe e veçantë fillestare për të zëvendësuar menynë e fillimit, nuk bënë prerje.[5][6]
