En os textos medievals en luengas romances d'a Peninsula Iberica no i heba diferenciación grafica entre a v y a u, y se feba servir una mesma grafía tanto si yera consonant como si yera vocal.

En aragonés

Representa en aragonés o fonema vocalico posterior (velar) d'apertura minima con as siguients realizacions[2]:

  • Como vocal [u]: ungla ([’uŋgla]), fuso ([’fuso]), furco ([’fuɾko]), otular ([otu’laɾ]), puyas ([’puyas]);
  • Como semivocal [u̯]: auca ([’au̯ka]), pauto ([’pau̯to]), augua ([’au̯ɣwa]), auto ([’au̯to]), aspeuto ([as’peu̯to]), cudiau ([ku’ðjau̯]);
  • Como semiconsonant [w]: fuella ([’fweʎa]), fuesa ([’fwesa]), muito ([’mujto]), mueso ([’mweso]), ascuitar ([askuj’taɾ]), muara ([’mwaɾa]), aguardar ([aɣwar’ðaɾ]), guaire ([’gwajɾe]), minguar ([miŋ’gwaɾ]).
