Ksiluloza je ketopentoza, monosaharid koji sadrži pet atoma ugljenika, kao i ketonsku funkcionalnu grupu. On ima hemijsku formulu C5H10O5. U prirodi, ona se javlja kao L- i D-enantiomeri.[5][6]

Patologija

L-Ksiluloza se akumulira u urinu kod pacijenata sa pentosurijom, zbog nedostatka L-ksilulozne reduktaze. Pošto je L-ksiluloza redukujući šećer poput D-glukoze, ovi pacijenti su nekad bili pogrešno dijagnozirani kao dijabetični.
